Charges are pending against a driver who authorities say caused a wreck in Lavonia Monday night.

It happened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday on State Route 17 near Grady School Road.

Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post Commander Sergeant Scott Andrews said a vehicle traveling north on Highway 17 crossed into the southbound lane.

“It appears that vehicle one, which was the at-fault vehicle, was traveling northbound on Georgia 17 and for unknown reasons crossed the center line into the southbound lane and traveled onto the southbound shoulder. Vehicle one then re-entered the southbound lane and was struck by vehicle number two,” Andrews said.

Andrews said the first vehicle was driven by a 19-year old male who was seriously injured.

That driver was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where his condition is not known.

The driver of the second car was a 50-year old female who was also injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The names of both drivers have not yet been released and the investigation is continuing.
