Two Arrested in Stephens Co. Burglary

Two people face charges after an alleged burglary.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary call on Cheek Smith Road on May 12.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that the victim advised deputies that two rifles and some household electronics were taken between May 11 and May 12.

Shirley said that the investigation led authorities to 21-year-old Tara Wikle of Demorest and 29-year-old Octavius Campbell of Toccoa.

According to the sheriff, deputies were able to locate some of the stolen property, including the two rifles, in a vehicle that Wikle was driving.

Sheriff Shirley said that Wikle and Campbell were both charged with burglary in the first degree.

He said Wikle was also charged with giving false name and date of birth to law enforcement officer and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Meanwhile, the sheriff said Campbell was also charged with false statements or writings, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, and driving while license suspended.

Shirley said Wikle posted a $22,000 bond and was picked up by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant, while Campbell is currently being held at the Stephens County Jail without bond and a parole violation warrant.
