Tugaloo State Park Makes Family Friendly List

An area state park is one of four in Georgia recognized by a national campaign.

Tugaloo State Park on Lake Hartwell is one of four Georgia State Parks named among the 2015 Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the United States, according to the “Take Me Fishing” campaign organized by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation.

The “Take Me Fishing” campaign selected the top 100 locations by a nationwide vote.

Criteria for the top places to fish and boat included having a public body of water within an hour of a major city with good fishing opportunities, and family-friendly amenities.

Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation President and CEO Frank Peterson said that fishing and boating are great ways to spend time with family and friends and most people are not even aware that by participating in the sport, they are actually helping to conserve the environment.

Tugaloo State Park sits on more than 55,000 acres on Lake Hartwell.

It boasts a six-lane mega ramp that is used for large fishing tournaments and easy lake access.

Other than Tugaloo State Park, other Georgia State Parks on the list include High Falls State Park in Jackson, Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, and Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele.
