Traveler’s Rest Now Open on Sundays

A Stephens County state historic site is now open more to the public on weekends.

Starting this past Sunday, Traveler’s Rest State Historic Site is open for public tours on Sundays.

For the past several years, Traveler’s Rest has only been open on Saturdays.

Built in the early 1800s, it was a popular stopping point along what was the Unicoi Turnpike when it was known as the Jarrett Manor.

Traveler’s Rest is located on Riverdale Road, six miles east of Toccoa off of U.S. Highway 123.

Today, visitors can tour the furnished the 6,000 square foot home and numerous outbuildings.

28th District State Representative Dan Gasaway said Traveler’s Rest preserves that part of history for the community and state.

Gasaway added that it is an important tourist attraction and economic generator for the Toccoa area, since visitors will stay in nearby hotels, dine in restaurants, and buy gas and other items from local businesses.

Meanwhile, 50th District State Senator John Wilkinson said he is excited that residents from across Georgia and from out of state will have more opportunities to enjoy this historic treasure.

Wilkinson said he appreciates the Georgia Department of Natural Resources working to help ensure the public has additional opportunities to visit Traveler’s Rest.

Hours on Sundays at Traveler’s Rest will be the same on Sundays as they are on Saturdays.

Traveler’s Rest will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth.
