A train headed into Georgia from South Carolina on Friday was delayed as it encountered some problems.
Oconee County, South Carolina emergency personnel reported that smoke and apparently fire could be seen from a freight train passing through Oconee County Friday morning on its way into Georgia.
Emergency personnel in Oconee County were able to reach Norfolk Southern personnel and the train was stopped for a brief time while train crews attended to what was wrong.
Oconee County, South Carolina Fire Chief Charlie King said it was not necessary for the county’s firefighters, trucks, and equipment to help, but they were deployed as a precautionary measure.
King went on to say that it is unclear if it was a fire, but added that there was a mechanical problem that the railroad was able to rectify and the train was then able to move on.
