Traffic Stop Results in Drug Arrest

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley reports his office has arrested and charged a Martin Ga, resident with possession of methamphetamine.

Sheriff Shirley says his Crime Suppression Unit was conducting concentrated patrol in the West Currahee and Easy Street area when the unit observed a 1988 Ford truck with extensive damage to the truck’s windshield. Shirley says deputies initiated a traffic stop with the truck on Easy Street because of a broken windshield. Sheriff Shirley said deputies ran the truck’s tag and it returned as being cancelled through the state of Georgia.

Sheriff Shirley says according to the arresting officer’s report, as Threlkeld exited the truck, deputies observed Threlkeld remove an item from the driver side door area and immediately shove the item in his pocket. Believing Threlkeld may have had a weapon; deputies performed a pat down and retrieved the item Threlkeld shoved in his pocket. Sheriff Shirley says deputies retrieved a plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Brandon Lee Threlkeld, age 23, of Jenkins Ferry Rd. in Martin was arrested and charged with one count Possession of Methamphetamine, one count Window Violation and Tag Violation. Threlkeld is currently being held at the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
