Toccoa, Stephens Co. To Work Together on Stephens Co. Recreation Area

March 27, 2014

Toccoa City and Stephens County Commissioners also discussed maintenance and operations at the Stephens County Recreation Area during their joint meeting on Wednesday.

Stephens County Commissioners approved on Tuesday a lease agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the county to operate and maintain the day use area at the Georgia-South Carolina state line on U.S. Highway 123.

City commissioners had previously expressed a willingness to assist as the city is able with some of that maintenance work, including things like litter pickup.

Toccoa Mayor Gail Fry said that the city would prefer things to be set up on a schedule to make it easier on everyone.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said the county is still determining what is required in the way of maintenance at the park and once that is known, the county would determine what it might need help on.

After that, the county would get back with the city about working together on the recreation area’s maintenance.
