The Toccoa-Stephens County Boys’ and Girls’ Club is planning to host clubs from all over north Georgia as part of an event later this summer.
Toccoa-Stephens County Boys’ and Girls’ Club Director Cindy Arnold said that the national Boys’ and Girls’ Club organization has partnered with WellCare on a healthy lifestyles initiative.
According to Arnold, WellCare has donated grant money for two events in Georgia, one in north Georgia and one in south Georgia, to promote healthy lifestyles by focusing on topics like nutrition and exercise.
Arnold said that plans are for Toccoa and Stephens County to host the north Georgia event.
“These events are somewhat like a field day, health fair, cooking classes, nutrition, all combined into one great experience and we were selected out of all the clubs north of Atlanta to host all these other clubs to come in and do this,” said Arnold.
According to Arnold, she hopes to plan a fun experience that may take place over two or three days this summer, possibly in July. Dates have not been set yet, however.
She added that she is very proud that the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys’ and Girls’ Club was selected to host this event.
“I think it is going to be just a super thing for the city and the county because you have all this exposure,” said Arnold. “Metro Atlanta has a lot of kids if they decide to bring them or if Augusta comes to us, then we are bringing all these kids to see what a great place Stephens County is to live. Even though they love their club, we want them to see we have a great club too.”
Arnold said she believes great things will come from the event and adds that she cannot say enough good things about WellCare and its support to make this happen.
