Toccoa Reports Sanitary Sewer Spill Wednesday

The city of Toccoa said everything is back to normal following a sanitary sewer spill on Wednesday.

According to a press release from the city, an employee discovered a cleanout plug overflowing near Hillcrest Street in Toccoa at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Toccoa officials said the overflow then started at about 2:50 p.m. and lasted for about 10 minutes, stopping at about 3 p.m.

The city said a total of about 100 gallons entered a small, unnamed tributary to Eastanollee Creek, which is a tributary to Lake Hartwell.

City officials went on to say there are no known water intake points within twenty miles of the spill.

According to the city, the overflow condition was caused by a blockage in a four-inch service line likely caused by debris.

The city said once the blockage was removed, the flow quickly returned to normal.

Officials with the city of Toccoa said that all appropriate notices have been posted and the required testing regimen started Thursday.
