Toccoa Receives Impressive ISO Rating

DSC_0071The City of Toccoa and Toccoa City Commissioners celebrated a high ISO (International Organization for Standardization) rating at their meeting on Monday evening. Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse announced the accomplishment. “Very little is accomplished in life without good teamwork and I think that we have had that in our community in many ways.” Morse Said; “In this case the Toccoa Fire Department, Toccoa Water Department, and the Stephens County E911 Department worked together to improve our ISO rating to a class 3. Each community within the nation is ranked from 1-10 for fire fighting capabilities. So being in Class 3 puts us in elite company and something we should be very proud of.”
ISO’s Public Protection Classification Program plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies. In fact, most U.S. insurers use the system as an important part of their decision making when deciding what business to write, coverage’s to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter cited that out of 968 communities in the State of Georgia only 45 communities had a better rating than Toccoa, and only 1200 communities in the United States scored better.
Toccoa City Commissioner Jeanette Jamieson started the meeting by praising the good work. “I certainly want to start off by congratulating the Toccoa Fire Department, Chief Tommy Ayers, the firemen, and all that have worked so hard for this ISO rating of 3” Said Jamieson; “I can’t find out yet how many towns in Georgia our size has this rating, but I dare say few if any, and I just congratulate all of you.”
Morse said that the 26 full-time employees in the Toccoa Fire Department combined for 388 years of experience with an average of 15 years per employee, and 4 of the firemen had over 30 years of experience.
If you question if the impressive ISO rating will have an effect on your homeowner’s insurance, Morse says he can’t say for sure because each insurance company independently determines the premiums it charges its policyholders, but to check with your insurance carrier to see if there is a change.
