Toccoa Readies For Festival of Trees

Downtown Toccoa is gearing up for the annual Festival of Trees.

Main Street Toccoa will again host the 9th annual Festival of Trees coming up from November 30 through December 3.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the Festival of Trees is a great way for people and businesses to give back to the community, while getting into the holiday spirit at the same time.

“We are inviting people to come and set up a tree,” said Crosby. “Businesses and even families can do it if they want to give to a particular charity or non-profit. They can set up a tree. It is free. They do not have to pay anything to do it. They decorate it and then people come in and view them and on December 2 and December 3, people can come and buy a ticket for $1 and place their vote in front of the tree they like the most or for the charity they would like to give to.”

All of the proceeds from the votes for each tree will go the non-profit organization that has been chosen by whoever put up that particular tree.

The tree receiving the most votes will win the grand prize of $500 that will go to the designated non-profit organization of that tree.

The trees will be on display in the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa starting on November 30 and lasting through December 3.

However, voting will only be allowed during Christmas Fest in downtown Toccoa on December 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. and prior to the Toccoa Christmas Parade on December 3 from noon to 4 p.m.

Crosby said there is still time to sign up and space available for anyone who wants to enter a tree to raise money for a non-profit organization.
