Toccoa Police Make Drug Arrest

Toccoa Police say one man faces drug charges after a traffic stop earlier this month.

Chief Tim Jarrell said that 20-year-old Aahlijah Shakur Drinkard was arrested on November 10 for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Related Items, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

Jarrell said that it all started when an officer pulled Drinkard over on Mize Road for a vehicle equipment violation.

“When Officer Cannon approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of unburned marijuana,” said Jarrell. “Inside the vehicle, officers located several plastic baggies, a gallon-size Ziploc bag with a sizable piece of marijuana pressed into what we call a ‘brick.’ We also found scales and a high-point .45 caliber handgun.”

Meanwhile, Jarrell said that Drinkard could face additional charges depending on what was in another container that was found in the vehicle during the traffic stop.

“We were also able to discover a clear, syrupy like substance in a pill bottle,” said Jarrell. “We are currently sending that substance to the GBI Crime Lab to see if they can help us determine what that substance is.”

Drinkard was also charged with some traffic-related violations as well.

Jarrell said that at last report, Drinkard was in the Stephens County Jail.
