Toccoa Police Investigating Monday Shooting Incident

The investigation is ongoing into a shooting incident in the parking lot of a Toccoa restaurant earlier this week.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said it occurred on Monday night in the parking lot at Applebee’s on Big A Road.

Jarrell said officers were called to the scene just before midnight for reports of shots fired and someone being shot.

“When we arrived, the person who had been shot was not on scene and had been transported to Stephens County Hospital by a private vehicle,” said Jarrell. “The person who did the shooting was still on scene. Several witnesses were present. We began interviewing witnesses on scene and had officers to go to the hospital to interview to gunshot wound victim.”

He said that victim is recovering from their injuries and was treated and released from Stephens County Hospital.

“The gentleman who had been shot had a graze, possibly from a bullet or a fragment of a bullet, to his hand and a gunshot wound to his upper leg,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell went on to say that the investigation is still underway by police to determine exactly what took place and why and if any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

“We are still interviewing witnesses,” said Jarrell. “We are in the process of pulling videotape of the area to try and give us a better understanding of what took place. We are wanting to gather all the information and present it to the District Attorney’s office and have them look at the case also.”

Jarrell said that at this point, police are not releasing the names of those involved because of the ongoing nature of the investigation.
