Toccoa Police Investigating Armed Robbery

The Toccoa Police Department is seeking the public’s help in trying to solve an armed robbery over the weekend.

It happened at about 11 p.m. Saturday at the Quik Mart convenience store at the corner of State Route 106 and State Route 145.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said the suspect approached the store on foot along Highway 106 walking from the By-pass, according to video obtained as part of the investigation.

“The unknown person, displayed a handgun, forced the clerk back into the store,” said Jarrell. “At which point, he had the clerk to open the cash register. They cleaned out the cash register and then he distinctly asked for a carton of Newport short cigarettes.”

Jarrell said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspect fled on foot in the direction of Liberty Hill Road.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

According to Jarrell, the suspect is described as a male approximately 6 feet tall with a slender build, wearing faded jeans, a black shirt, a black New York Yankees baseball cap with a sticker on it, and slides or sandals with white socks on.

Jarrell said he feels there is someone out there with information that can assist authorities in the investigation of this case.

“Clearly on video, we can see people walking,” said Jarrell. “We can see traffic going up and down the road. Someone had to have seen this person or someone had to have seen a vehicle parked either at the Credit Union or up the road somewhere if this person had went back to get in a vehicle. There was a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic up and down 106 and Liberty Hill Road before, during, and after this incident happened.”
