The Toccoa Police Department says two people face a drug charge after an incident over the weekend at a city apartment complex.
According to Interim Chief Tim Jarrell, police were called out to a report of shots being fired on Sunday.
“At around 12:51 p.m., the police department received a report about shots being fired at the Toccoa Pines Apartments,” said Jarrell. “When the officers arrived, no one was present. They were able to speak with tenants in the apartment complex and were able to identify one of the suspected individuals involved in the shooting.”
When police went to the apartment that had been identified, Jarrell said they first spoke with 18-year-old Ieshai Brown of Toccoa.
“While officers were interviewing her, they detected a strong odor of marijuana from the apartment,” said Jarrell. “The officers obtained a search warrant, searched the apartment, and were able to find a quantity of marijuana of more than one ounce, several baggies, and over $1800 in cash.”
Police arrested Brown and another individual, 19-year-old Deiondre Fortson of Toccoa, and charged both with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
No charges have been filed in relation to the report of shots fired that first brought police to the apartment complex that day. Jarrell said that remains under investigation.
