According to Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell, police were called to the Toccoa Wal-Mart in the early morning hours of Tuesday in reference to two alleged shoplifters.

Jarrell said that police apprehended the two women accused of shoplifting and conducted a search.

“Officers were able to locate what they believed to be crystal methamphetamine,” said Jarrell. “It was in a bag, in a backpack, with some other items that had been shoplifted.”

Jarrell said police arrested 20-year-old Kristin Hope Carter of Westminster, South Carolina and 27-year-old Tabatha Nell Pitch of Seneca, South Carolina.

They are both charged by Toccoa Police with a felony charge of Trafficking Methamphetamine and misdemeanor Shoplifting.

According to Jarrell, the women had a large sum of suspected methamphetamine.

“The suspected methamphetamine is over 6.22 ounces, which we believe to have an estimated street value of over $13,000,” said Jarrell.

Carter and Pitch were both transported to the Stephens County Jail.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that when Pitch arrived at the jail, jail deputies found another ounce of methamphetamine on her.

The Sheriff’s Office charged Pitch with additional charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Crossing the Guard Line with Illegal Contraband.

Meanwhile, Jarrell said the police department has seized the 2001 Toyota Highlander the women were driving and nearly $1,000 in cash that the women had on them at the time of their arrest.
