Toccoa Police Announce Two Arrests in Early Morning Incident

Two people face charges after a call regarding shots fired in Toccoa leads to a traffic stop.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that officers responded to South Sage Street just before 1 a.m. Monday after receiving a call about shots being fired in that area.

“While officers were responding to the area, several vehicles were seen leaving,” said Jarrell. “One of the vehicles was stopped on South Alexander Street. The driver of the vehicle had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his person.”

Jarrell said that police arrested the driver, 30-year-old Alexander Frederick Gober of Toccoa, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Felony Possession of Alprazolam.

Also, he said a passenger in the vehicle, 27-year-old James Edward Liggins, Jr. of Commerce, was arrested for Felony Possession of Alprazolam.

According to Jarrell, police have not yet figured out what the shots were fired at or if anything was hit.

“We have not had any report of any injuries or any property damage,” said Jarrell. “We did locate shell casings within the vehicle. We did find both occupants to be in possession of ammunition.”

However, Jarrell said police have not yet found a weapon in connection with this case.

He said police are continuing to investigate the case.

“We did receive some information from citizens who live in the area,” said Jarrell. “We are following up on that information. We have a couple of residences that we are focusing our attention on.”

Jarrell said that additional charges are possible in connection with this investigation.

Meanwhile, he said that the two men arrested also had outstanding warrants out of Stephens County in addition to the charges filed by Toccoa Police in this case.
