Toccoa Police Announce Arrest in Weekend Shooting

Toccoa Police have charged someone in connection with a weekend shooting.

Chief Tim Jarrell said that officers responded to a home on West Franklin Street Saturday night at about 7:45 p.m., along with Stephens County EMS and Toccoa Fire.

Jarrell said that officers found one person had been shot at that location.

“When officers arrived at the residence on West Franklin Street, Michael Pete Lipscomb had three to four gunshot wounds to his body,” said Jarrell. “He was conscious and alert.”

According to Jarrell, the 39-year-old Lipscomb, who is from Toccoa, was transported first to Stephens County Hospital then on to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Lipscomb was treated and released from Greenville Memorial.

Meanwhile, Jarrell said officers on scene were able to get a description of individuals that may have been involved in the shooting from witness statements.

Jarrell said that led officers to a nearby location where they found two individuals.

“While speaking with those two individuals, it was discovered one of them had a set of scales on him and a substance believed to be methamphetamine,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell said 25-year-old Chanin Emil Mayfield of Toccoa was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Related Objects.

Then on Wednesday, police announced they had arrest warrants on 26-year-old Terrell Seanta Williams of Toccoa for aggravated assault in connection to the shooting.

The chief said police have continued to investigate the shooting to try and find out exactly what happened.

“At that time, a firearm was not located on their person,” said Jarrell. “However, in a search of the area the next day, a firearm was located in the area where the officer made contact with the two individuals.”

It is unclear if that weapon police found is connected to the shooting and police still said it is unclear why Lipscomb was shot.

Jarrell said that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
