Toccoa Not Immune to Gas Issues Throughout Southeast U.S.

Gas prices jump in the Toccoa area as the region continues to grapple with gas supply issues caused by a pipeline leak in Alabama.

In the Toccoa area, prices for regular gas have risen as much as 30 to 40 cents in the past several days.

Meanwhile, a couple of stations appeared as of Monday evening to not have gas, echoing trends that have been seen throughout the region after a leak was detected in the Colonial Pipeline near Birmingham, Alabama earlier this month.

AAA said the Colonial Pipeline transports more than 100 million gallons of petroleum products like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel a day, to markets between Houston and New York City, providing nearly 40 percent of the region’s gasoline and serving more than 50 million people.

According to AAA, Georgia is one of the states affected the most by this situation.

Meanwhile, the Georgia Department of Agriculture said it is working with federal, state and industry partners to monitor the situation and have taken action along with the Governor’s Office to relax certain regulations in an attempt to open several alternate avenues to help resupply gas.

The Agriculture Department said that as of Monday, it appeared that the situation was starting to improve, but notes it will take time for the gas supply to return to normal.

Officials with the Agriculture Department reiterated Governor Nathan Deal’s advisement to the public to maintain regular consumption levels and travel schedules in order to reduce further interruption to the fuel supply.
