The city held its annual Arbor Day ceremony on Friday afternoon at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club on Whitman Street.

This year’s theme was “Planting for the Future.”

City officials, the Georgia Forestry Commission, and Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful were all on hand to help the children of the Boys and Girls’ Club plant trees out in front of the club along Whitman Street.

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful Director Linda Scofield said it is very important to involve children in events like this to teach them about trees.

“They are the future,” said Scofield.  “The trees are our future.  We need to teach them why trees are important.”

Toccoa Mayor Gail Fry also spoke as part of the city’s Arbor Day festivities.
