Toccoa Man Charged in Westminster Burglary

Justin Matthew RicheyAuthorities in South Carolina say a Toccoa man faces charges in connection to an alleged burglary last month.

The Oconee County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office says it has charged 27-year-old Justin Matthew Richey of North Pond Street in Toccoa with First Degree Burglary and Grand Larceny in connection with an alleged burglary near Westminster in the middle of February.

Oconee County authorities say a resident on Dr. John’s Road near Westminster contacted sheriff’s deputies last month about someone allegedly breaking into their residence and stealing some items.

Warrants accuse Richey of stealing a handgun and antique jewelry.

According to authorities, Richey first went to the residence to inquire about a lawn mower for sale as well as items that were located elsewhere on the property.

Authorities say the homeowner then let Richey into the residence concerning a TV that the homeowner wanted to get rid of and while inside, the homeowner reports allowing Richey to use the restroom facilities.

Oconee County authorities say Richey gave the homeowner a false name and telephone number.

Then, authorities report that the homeowner noticed after arriving back at the residence later on after leaving, a window had beeen tampered with and items were missing from the home.

The Oconee County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office used the incident to remind homeowners to be careful of the people they let into their homes.
