A Toccoa man faces multiple charges after a high-speed chase on I-85 and through FranklinCounty.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Jimmy LeCroy said last Wednesday morning, Franklin County deputies reported noticing a Silver Chevy pick up parked illegally on Interstate 85 next to another vehicle.
LeCroy said officers became suspicious of the parked activity and when they attempted to follow the suspect, he began driving at high speeds exceeding 80 mph up I-85 Northbound.
He went on to say the chase continued up the Interstate reaching speeds of 90 miles an hour into the town of Carnesville.
LeCroy said the chase ended when the suspect lost control of his 1993 Chevy Silverado truck and hit several cars that were parked in the driveway of a home off State Route 145 and Stone Bridge Road.
Then, LeCroy said the driver then got out and ran on foot, but was arrested shortly afterwards in a nearby open pasture.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Justin Jones of Toccoa.
LeCroy said officers obtained a search warrant for Jones’ vehicle and inside found a quantity of controlled substances, firearms, and counterfeit currency.
Jones faces multiple charges including fleeing and attempting to eluded law enforcement, D.U.I, hit and run, Possession with intent to distribute schedule II drugs, felony obstruction, Possession with intent to distribute, schedule I drugs, Forgery, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Criminal use of firearm with alerted serial numbers, and a host of traffic violations.
He was set to have a bond hearing late last week.
