Toccoa Life Marks New Location With Ribbon Cutting

A local center that works with moms-to-be celebrates its new location.

The Toccoa Life Pregnancy Resource Center held a Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at its new location at the Pointe Church in Eastanollee.

William and Amanda Brothers are the new directors of the center.

Amanda Brothers said their goal is to offer support, education, and more for expecting mothers in Stephens County.

“It starts with a free pregnancy test and from that point on, once they get a positive pregnancy test, there is a curriculum they can come and take,” said Brothers. “It is called ‘Earn While You Learn,’ plus there is some other stuff we are going to throw in there. You watch a DVD, you answer some questions, you take home homework that you will focus on during the week. When you bring it back, you get five baby bucks you can spend in the mommy store where there is new clothing, car seats, high chairs, diapers, anything you would need for a newborn baby. If you are a client of Toccoa Life, you also get an ultrasound. Once a month, there is a man who comes around and does free ultrasounds.”

Meanwhile, Brothers said they are looking at adding more services in the future as the center continues to grow.

She went on to say that the center also needs donations of items to help provide the support for the moms.

“Right now, we need girls’ clothing that is new or lightly used,” she explained. “We need formula, size 4 and 5 diapers. We have been getting lots of calls for those larger sized diapers and we do not have lots of those. We are also looking for a climate-controlled storage area that we can store some of our big items that we can just pull from when we have a need. If anyone wants to donate a new car seat, we cannot give out old ones but we can give out new seats.”

The Toccoa Life Pregnancy Resource Center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Pointe Church on Highway 17 in Eastanollee, just south of Wal-Mart.

The phone number for the center is 706-886-0177. Brothers said that number is also a hotline that after hours will roll over to one of the center’s volunteers.
