The Toccoa Junior League All-Star Softball team will begin its quest for a Southeast Regional Tournament Championship this weekend.
Toccoa is representing the state of Georgia in the Junior League Softball Southeast Regional Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida.
Play begins Saturday with a pool play format.
Toccoa is in a group with the host team from Fort Myers, along with another team from Florida, and a team from North Carolina.
Coach Todd Mayfield said the girls on the team have worked hard for an entire year to have this opportunity once again.
“For 11 months this year, they have dedicated their body, mind, and soul to playing softball,” said Mayfield. “We are peaking at the right time.”
Last year, the Toccoa Junior League Softball All-Stars made it to the championship game of this same tournament before finishing in second place.
Mayfield said the goal this year is to do one place better than last year.
“This year, we are going to win a tournament,” said Mayfield. “We are not going to play a tournament.”
Mayfield went on to say that he appreciates the support that the community has shown the team.
“I would like to thank everyone in the community for helping to sponsor the girls,” said Mayfield.
Toccoa begins play against the Florida representative on Saturday, before playing the North Carolina representative on Sunday, and finishing up pool play on Monday against the host team.
Semi-final play is on Tuesday and the Championship is on Wednesday.
If Toccoa wins this tournament, it would move on to the Junior League Softball World Series in Washington state.
