Downtown Toccoa will host a block party tonight to celebrate ongoing renovations to the Schaefer Center.
The block party will take place tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. along Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa, next to Toccoa City Hall and the Schaefer Center.
Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that the Fox Theatre Institute is bringing this event to Toccoa to recognize the work being done at the Schaefer Center.
“The Fox Theatre has given us a grant, so we are very excited about that,” said Crosby. “They will be presenting it to our mayor (tonight). It is just a celebration of all of the renovations that are being done at the Schaefer Center.”
The whole event is free to the public.
Crosby said there will be a lot to do.
“Bring the whole family,” said Crosby. “There will be inflatables for the children. We will have free food. There will be plenty of things to do.”
There will also be a free concert.
Crosby said that headlining that concert will be alternative folk group, “Von Grey.”
“(They are) a family of four sisters from Alpharetta,” said Crosby. “They have done an amazing job. They are really growing in popularity. They have been on Conan O’Brien, David Letterman, Rock Center, and other nationally known programs. We are excited to hear them. They have a unique sound.”
“Von Grey” will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Other performers include Reese Watson at 5 p.m., followed by the Dance Studio. Then at 7:30 p.m., Chuck Taylor will perform.
In addition, there will be tours of the Schaefer Center.
Officials also noted that Doyle Street between Alexander and Broad streets will be closed later today in order to hold the event.
