Toccoa Hopes to Start Emory Johnson Park Improvements Soon

The city of Toccoa takes another step towards starting work on improvements at Emory Johnson Park.

Monday, city commissioners unanimously approved a resolution for the project.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that the city has a number of improvements planned for the park.

“We want to demolish the existing picnic shelter and construct two new shelters,” said Morse. “Also, we plan to remodel and enlarge the concessions building, have an enclosed food preparation area and storage area.

There will be sidewalk, sign, and other improvements, said Morse.

Morse said city staff will work with the Stephens County High School construction class on the project.

In addition, the city will consult with the Horticulture class at North Georgia Technical College and local contractors for minor electrical and plumbing services as needed.

According to the resolution approved by the city, the project is expected to cost about $40,000.

Toccoa is using SPLOST V money that is available for recreation in order to do the project.
