Toccoa Holiday Activities Starting Today

Holiday activities get underway today in downtown Toccoa.

The annual Festival of Trees opens to the public today at the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the Festival will work a little differently this year.

She said that the trees have been decorated by local artists for the public to look at over the next two days.

“Each one of the artists will put their own spin on the decorations, so it would be great if people have time to just come and look at the trees,” said Crosby.

People can view the trees at the historic courthouse today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Then at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the trees will be auctioned off to the highest bidder who can then take the tree home.

The money raised from the sale of the trees will then go to the United Way of Stephens County.

Also tonight, Main Street Toccoa will begin its series of “Christmas Movies at the Schaefer Center.”

Crosby said people voting picked the movies that Main Street will show tonight and the next two Thursday nights as well.

Tonight is “Home Alone.”

Admission is $1 and concessions are $1.

On December 10 will be “It’s a Wonderful Life” and on December 17 will be “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

All show times are 7 p.m.

Crosby said she hopes people will come enjoy the holiday entertainment.

“You probably have never seen it on a 30-foot screen,” said Crosby. “It will be fun to bring the kids out.”

The Schaefer Center is located at the corner of Broad and Doyle streets in downtown Toccoa.
