Toccoa Gets State Grant For Signage

A state grant will help the city of Toccoa with some signage.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development has awarded the city of Toccoa with a $2,330 grant to help pay for wayfinding signage.

Weslie Clark with Main Street Toccoa said the signage will help people find downtown Toccoa.

“We have heard some complaints over the years from visitors that can only find their way so far to downtown Toccoa,” said Clark. “We are going to use this money to develop some signage to help people find downtown more easily.”

The grant requires a 50 percent match from the city of $2,330, which Clark says the city has.

Clark said that the signs will be located in various areas around Toccoa that will point visitors towards the downtown area.

She said the next step is to figure out exactly the best places to put the signs.

“We will definitely be putting some on Currahee Street and Big A Road, but we will also put some on Falls Road,” said Clark.

Clark said the signs will go up within the next year, but there is no exact timeframe yet.

Toccoa was one of 11 entities to receive grant funding from the Georgia Department of Economic Development through this effort.

There were 63 applications for the funding.

State officials said the Tourism Product Development Agreement program, which is providing this grant funding, was designed to financially support tourism and cultural development activities at the local level that maintain and create jobs, attract tourists, and enhance the visitor experience.
