Toccoa Gets First Rainfall In A Month

It wasn’t much, but Stephens County did see some much needed rain over the weekend.

Just over a tenth of an inch fell in downtown Toccoa early Sunday morning.

That marks the first measurable rainfall in downtown Toccoa since October 8.

Stephens County remains in a state of extreme drought, according to last week’s Drought Monitor report.

Over 42 percent of the state joins Stephens County in extreme drought, with 17 percent of the state, including Habersham County, being in exceptional drought, the most severe level of drought on the Drought Monitor report.

Stephens County and northeast Georgia have also continued to deal with smoke from wildfires in western North Carolina and Rabun County.

Over the weekend, Stephens County firefighters went to help with the fires in Rabun County that started last week.

Those fires caused evacuations on Friday in the Persimmon community of Rabun County, according to officials.
