Toccoa Fire Dept. Reports Two Fires

The Toccoa Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office continue to investigate a fire earlier this month at a local hotel.

Toccoa Fire Chief Tommy Ayers said that crews responded to a room at the Toccoa Inn around 5:30 a.m. on February 2.

Ayers said one person was injured in the fire and sent to Grady with burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

He said the cause of the fire was undetermined as of Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, another person was sent to Grady with burn injuries and smoke inhalation in a second, separate fire last week.

It occurred around early Friday morning on Riley Street in Toccoa.

Ayers said crews responded to an abandoned house that was fully involved at the time they got on scene.

The chief said someone was living in the home even though it was abandoned.

Ayers said that person told fire crews that they had started a fire inside the home which got out of control.

Neither of the names of those injured in these two separate fires have been released at this time.
