Toccoa Finishing Improvements At Emory Johnson Park

The city of Toccoa is finishing up improvements at Emory Johnson Park.

Toccoa City Commissioner Terry Carter updated commissioners and the public on the improvements last week.

He said that a new pavilion has been constructed for the park closer to the roadway and the parking for the park, which is on Whitman Street.

“It is identical to the other two new ones that are closer to the swimming pool area,” said Carter. “There are also new sidewalks and new curbing in the parking area.”

Carter also said that work has been done to improve the park’s concession stand.

He said that work is almost finished.

“It has been painted on the outside and where the actual concession room is with the counter and the top that comes open, it is really nice, they have a plastic interior on it,” said Carter. “It will meet all of the food and safety standards. They have done an excellent job on it.”

Also, Carter said that bleachers at the baseball field have been checked and made sure to be in good working condition.

He said crews have also painted the dugouts.

As work nears an end, Carter said that Emory Johnson Park will also receive a new sign.

“The sign will be in keeping with the other city signs that we have,” said Carter. “Same color, same style and design. It will be really nice when it is finished.”

He added there is not much more work to be done.

Carter thanked the Public Works Department for its efforts at Emory Johnson Park.

He also provided an update on the efforts of a committee formed to look at renovations at Toccoa City Hall.

According to Carter, the committee agrees that the roof at City Hall should be addressed first and they are talking with a consultant regarding the historic section of roof that exists to get information on that before bidding anything out.
