Toccoa Earns Grant for Lake Toccoa Property

The city of Toccoa receives grant funding to help with the next step in the development of recreation at Lake Toccoa.

This week, Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse announced that the city had received a grant of $80,000 from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to construct a pavilion and pier at Lake Toccoa for the public to use for recreation.

The grant funds are coming from the Land and Water Conservation Fund through the National Park Service.

On Monday, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved the resolution to accept the grant.

Commissioner Gail Fry said this is a great chance to add more to the property for people to enjoy.

“The pavilion and the pier are going to add so much to it,” said Fry, who explained that there would be paddleboats at the pier to rent in the future. “It is just getting us much closer to a goal of a family-oriented place.”

Fry also thanked those who worked on the grant.

Adding a pavilion and pier to Lake Toccoa is one phase of creating what Morse calls a Lake Toccoa recreation area.

Morse said the city’s goal is to make it more than a nine-hole golf course.

Other plans for the property located off of Highway 17 Alternate and Black Mountain Road include a walking trail.

City officials did not specify when work on the pavilion and pier might start or when it might be completed.
