Toccoa Dedicates Another Downtown Historic Plaque

Officials gathered at Dr. Kay Royal’s office on East Doyle Street Thursday to unveil the third historic plaque of ten in the 2014-2015 series.

The structure has been home to physicians for many years.

Doctor McBath bought the home in 1922 when he moved from Eastanollee to Toccoa and he and his family lived upstairs while he practiced medicine in the basement.

After Dr. McBath died, his wife lived in the home until she died in 1947.

Their daughter, Barbara, turned the house into a boarding house for teachers and then in 1987, when Barbara died, the house was turned into apartments and a doctor’s office.

Dr. Royal bought the house to use for her office in 2007.

City officials said once all plaques have been installed, a walking tour podcast will accompany them to further bring historical awareness to downtown Toccoa.
