Toccoa Costume Parade Set For This Morning

The 24th annual downtown Toccoa Costume Parade takes place later today.

Preschool age children between the ages of two and five are invited to attend and Main Street Toccoa says that area pre-schools will also participate.

Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that children should begin lining up at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Alexander and Doyle streets for the parade to begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Again this year, the parade will go down Doyle Street to Sage Street and cross Sage at Stewart’s Drugs, before continuing down Doyle Street to Dr. Kay Royal’s office.

The costume parade will then make its way back up Doyle Street to the intersection with Sage Street, where refreshments will be available and the award winners will be announced at the end of the parade.

Along the parade route, merchants will meet the children and give out Halloween treats, while volunteers and police will help participants along the route.

Meanwhile, prizes will be awarded for costume categories for a variety of different age groups and each child wishing to be judged should have their name and age clearly marked on a nametag to help the judges make their choices.

Crosby said parents and grandparents are invited to attend as well.

She said everything should conclude by 11:30 a.m. or noon.
