Toccoa Commissioners Accept Bids

The city of Toccoa goes ahead with the purchase of a service truck for the city’s Natural Gas Expansion Construction Crew.

Tuesday, the city commission opened bids on the service truck.

While the city says multiple local dealers were contacted, only one bid came in.

That was from Mike Jones Ford Lincoln of Toccoa, who quoted the city a price of $33,216.36 for an F-350 if the city bought it before September 30, but a price of $37,089.36 if the city bought the truck after September 30.

Toccoa Utilities Director Harry Scott said that is because of government rebates that expire at the end of September that would bring the price of the truck down.

City Manager Billy Morse said he would recommend moving right ahead with the truck purchase to get the lowest price possible.

“Based on the GMA lease pool, we had estimated this truck would come in at a higher price than it did, so I think we got a good price,” said Morse.

Morse said city staff will make sure the truck meets all of the city’s specifications that it laid out in the bid.

Commissioners approved the purchase unanimously.

Meanwhile, Toccoa City Commissioners also unanimously voted to award a bid for water treatment system improvements to Allsouth Constructors, Inc. of Covington in the amount of $284,122.

Allsouth was the lowest of three bidders for the work.

The project will include chemical feed and monitoring system improvements at the city’s water treatment plant, as well as painting and concrete restoration.

The city has SPLOST money available to pay for the work.

Finally, the Toccoa city commission unanimously approved a bid for the re-surfacing of the parking area at the Doyle Street fire station.

The bid was awarded to Stratton and Sons of Canon in the amount of $20,585.

That company was the low bidder.

SPLOST money will also be used for the project.
