Toccoa Commission Starts 2015

Toccoa City Commissioners take care of some housekeeping items to begin their calendar year.

Monday, the city commission held its first meeting of 2015.

During the meeting, the commission unanimously ratified the selection of Terry Carter as Mayor for 2015 and Evan Hellenga as Vice-Mayor.

The commission selected those two commissioners for those positions in December.

City commissioners also unanimously re-appointed the city manager, city clerk, and city chaplain, while making a number of assignments of commissioners to various boards on which the city is represented.

Toccoa Commissioners also set qualifying fees for the 2015 city commission election.

City Clerk Fredda Wheeler said the fees are set by state law.

“The fee is required to be three percent of the salaries of the position available,” said Wheeler. “That means the qualifying fee will be set for Post 1, 2, and 4 will be $252.”

The three city commission seats up for election this year are those held by Terry Carter, Gail Fry, and David Austin.

Qualifying will be August 31 through September 4 and the election will be in November.

City commissioners also unanimously ratified the purchase of the Reflections property at the city golf course during Monday’s meeting.

The city agreed to purchase the property last month at a cost of $169.302.50.
