Toccoa City Commissioners are expected to discuss the Doyle Street Pool at their meeting later today.
Last week, the Toccoa-Stephens County YMCA announced that the pool would not be opening this summer.
YMCA CEO Robin Dake said that when working to open the pool, the YMCA found significant leaks in the pool and a problem with the pool’s pump system.
Under the pool management agreement between the city of Toccoa and the YMCA, the Y manages the pool but the agreement states that any decision to repair pool facilities other than routine maintenance shall be determined by the Toccoa City Commission on an as-needed basis.
In recent years, concerns have been raised by the city about putting a lot of money into the pool for repairs, considering its age.
Dake said that the YMCA was looking at possible alternatives in light of the problems with the pool and she adds that she looked forward to possibly discussing some of those alternatives with the city.
The Toccoa City Commission will begin its meeting at 5 p.m. in the commission meeting room at Toccoa City Hall in downtown Toccoa.
The meeting is open to the public.
