Toccoa Commission Meeting Today

It appears to be a light agenda for the Toccoa City Commission when it meets for its second meeting of the month of July later today.

There is only one item on the agenda under “new business” for the city commission to consider.

That is a request to abandon a portion of East Savannah Street.

Toccoa Planning Director Connie Tabor said the request is to abandon a portion of East Savannah Street from Walnut to the First Baptist Church parking lot.

Tabor said it is at the request of Mr. and Mrs. John Zeches and First Baptist Church of Toccoa.

According to Tabor, there are multiple reasons this request has been made.

She said first, the two sides are trying to work out a property line issue with the Zeches family, while the other main reason is to try and improve traffic safety around the First Baptist Church pre-school.

The Toccoa Planning Commission has already looked at the request and by a unanimous vote, recommended that the city commission approve the request.

Tabor said a number of property owners that would be affected were notified of the request and no opposition has been expressed to the Planning Commission.

Also, Tabor said that abandoning this portion of the roadway would not completely cut off access to any of the properties along that stretch of the road.

Toccoa City Commissioners meet at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.

Today’s meeting is open to the public.
