Toccoa Clinic Adding Optometrist

The Toccoa Clinic will re-open its eye clinic for vision and optical services.

This week, the clinic announced that optometrist Brian Kurtz is joining the medical staff of Toccoa Clinic as it reopens its eye clinic for vision and optical services at 274 Big A Road in Toccoa.

Dr. Kurtz earned a bachelor of pre-medical sciences degree from West Chester State University and his doctorate of optometry from the Pennsylvania School of Optometry.

His career spans twenty-five years including private, military and academic practices, most recently in Cordele and Columbus.

Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary vision care ranging from sight testing and correction to the diagnosis, treatment and management of vision changes.

Toccoa Clinic’s chief medical officer, Dr. David Yates, said that the Clinic appreciates and applauds that professional training for optometrists has changed over the years to be more medically-oriented than in the past.

Yates said that optometrists now receive comprehensive training not just in optics and refraction, but in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease or systemic conditions that can affect vision and eye health and that’s the dimension Dr. Kurtz brings to the practice.

Dr. Kurtz’ work has been recognized by the Lions Club’s community service award, the ‘Extra Special People’ award serving handicapped children and the US Air Force’s commendation medal of honor.

Toccoa Clinic Practice Administrator David Cronic said this is a vital need in the community and region and the Clinic has taken extra care identifying and recruiting a specialist of Dr. Kurtz’ caliber to join its medical team.

Kurtz and the staff will reopen the clinic’s optical shop in the Foothills Centre in early May and Celebrate “Healthy Vision Month.”

Appointments may be made by telephoning 706-886-0421.

Vision insurance plans will be accepted.
