Toccoa City Commission to Meet Today

Toccoa City Commissioners are set to hold first readings on the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget and a proposed pay raise for city commissioners at their meeting later today.

The Toccoa City Commission is set to meet at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.

City commissioners are proposing to increase the pay for the mayor to $15,996 a year, or $1,333 per month, while increasing the pay for the other commissioners to $15,000 per year, or $1,250 per month.

The pay increase, if approved, would take effect on January 1, 2018, following the next city commission election in 2017.

Currently, the Mayor makes $10,800 per year, or $900 per month, and a commissioner makes $8,400 per year, or $700 per month.

Meanwhile, the commission is also holding its first budget reading for Fiscal Year 2017.

The current proposed budget proposes no increases in either utility rates or property taxes for the city of Toccoa or its customers.

The budget is expected to be approved at the commission’s May 23 meeting.

Today’s Toccoa City Commission meeting also allows time for public comment.
