Toccoa City Commission Meets Today

Toccoa City Commissioners are scheduled to meet today for their second regularly scheduled meeting for the month of November.

The city commission is scheduled to hold that meeting today at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.

During the meeting, the Toccoa City Commission is expected to consider approval of a proposal for design services for planned renovations at Henderson Falls Park.

Earlier this year, the city received $100,000 in grant funds from the National Park Service through the state’s Department of Natural Resources for work at Henderson Falls Park.

The city is matching the $100,000 in grant funds with about $100,000 in SPLOST money.

Toccoa officials say that together, that $200,000 or so in funds will allow the city to undertake some wide-ranging improvements at Henderson Falls Park.

Those planned improvements include a new observation deck at the Falls itself, upgrading the lighting, painting and re-wiring the picnic shelters, replacing fencing around the tennis courts, and re-surfacing and re-striping the parking area and entrance drive.

Also during today’s meeting, the city commission is expected to consider adoption of a number of Public Health Rules and Regulations that have been brought to the city for consideration by the Health Department.

Today’s 5 p.m. Toccoa City Commission meeting also allows time for public comment.

Meanwhile, city commissioners will meet for a work session prior to the 5 p.m. meeting.

That work session will start at 4 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.

During the work session, the city commission is expected to hear from David Shirley, a Toccoa native who has put forth a proposal regarding operations of the Pines golf course.

The work session is also open to the public.
