Toccoa City Commission Meeting Today

Proposed pay raises for the Toccoa City Commission are expected to be re-considered at a meeting tonight.

The Toccoa City Commission meets at 5 p.m. today at Toccoa City Hall.

Only one item is on tonight’s meeting agenda.

That is the consideration of the Toccoa City Commission Compensation Ordinance.

City commissioners had previously tabled consideration of the pay raise at their meeting on May 23.

Under the proposal that was put forth last month, the pay for a city commissioner would increase from $8,400 per year to $15,000 per year starting in 2018, while the pay for the mayor would increase from $10,800 per year to $15,996 per year starting in 2018.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that city commissioners’ pay has remained unchanged since 1999 and adds that since then, the job has become more complicated and time-consuming.

However, some residents have questioned the proposal and the amount of the pay increase.

The Toccoa City Commission is meeting today, about a week earlier than normal, because of a schedule conflict with the normal meeting date this month.

Today’s 5 p.m. Toccoa City Commission meeting is open to the public.
