Toccoa City Commission Makes Yearly Appointments

January 15, 2013

Toccoa City Commissioners also took care of a number of regular appointments during Monday’s meeting.

First, the commission ratified the election of David Austin as Mayor in 2013 and Andy Pavliscsak as Vice-Mayor in 2013, keeping things the same from the last 12 months.

Commissioners had first voted to do this at their last meeting on December 17, but had to ratify it Monday night.

Pavliscsak made the motion to ratify the vote and it was approved unanimously.

The city commission chooses the mayor and vice-mayor from amongst themselves yearly.

In recent years, the commission had rotated the mayoral position among the five commissioners, but decided to remain with Austin for a second straight year.

Toccoa City Commissioner Terry Carter, in making the original motion at the December 17 meeting, said that he wanted to maintain the stability and momentum that had been created over the last 12 months at City Hall.

In other yearly appointments from Monday, the city commission re-appointed Mike Jackson as City Manager, Fredda Wheeler as City Clerk, and Hill Street Baptist Church Pastor the Rev. Paul Garrison as City Chaplain.

The commission also made appointments from among itself to various boards on which the city commission is represented.
