Toccoa 10-11 Baseball Wins District; 9-10 Baseball Falls to Hart
The Toccoa 10 and 11-year-old baseball All-stars are district champions.
Toccoa defeated Habersham 13-2 Monday at the Doyle Street Park in Toccoa to sweep the best-of-three series between the only two teams competing for the district title in the 10-11 baseball age bracket.
Pierce Childs was the winning pitcher for Toccoa, hurling two shutout innings.
With the win, Toccoa’s 10 and 11-year-old baseball all-stars will move on to the state 10-11 tournament in Peachtree City next month.
Meanwhile, Toccoa’s 9 and 10-year-old All-Stars fall in their first game in pool play at the District tournament.
Hart County defeated Toccoa 13-3 Monday at the Doyle Street Park in Toccoa.
Toccoa jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and one in the second.
However, Cane Berrong hit a grand slam in the top of the third to put Hart County on top 4-3.
Hart County scored nine times in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 13-3. The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule and a time limit.
Josh Henshaw and Kenny Colwell both had two doubles for Toccoa.
Hart County’s 9 and 10-year-old Baseball All-Stars are now 2-0 in pool play and will be in the semi-finals after previously defeating Rabun County Saturday 22-0.
Toccoa is 0-1 in pool play and will play Rabun County tonight at 8:30 p.m. on Field Three at the Doyle Street Park in Toccoa.
