Thursday Afternoon Qualifying Update

The Stephens County Chief Magistrate’s seat will be a contested race this May.

Ralph Stowe qualified on Thursday to run for the non-partisan seat.

He is challenging incumbent Don Tabor.

Stowe is the only county candidate to qualify on Thursday as of 4 p.m.

At the federal level, three more candidates have qualified to run against Doug Collins for the 9th District U.S. House seat in Georgia.

They are former U.S. Representative Paul Broun, Bernie Fontaine of Suches, and Mike Scupin of Cumming.

No additional candidates qualified for state races involving Stephens County on Thursday.

Qualifying ends at noon on Friday.

Candidates qualifying for Stephens County races must do so at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, located in the Stephens County Courthouse Annex in downtown Toccoa.

State and federal qualifying takes place in Atlanta at the Secretary of State’s Office.
