Three from Toccoa Arrested in Banks Co. Shooting

December 20, 2012

Three Toccoa men face charges in connection with a shooting over the weekend in Banks County that left one man injured.

According to Banks County Sheriff-Elect Carlton Speed, authorities responded to a location on Borders Road in Banks County at around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Once there, authorities found 30-year-old David D. Watkins of Borders Road shot in the abdomen. According to Speed, he was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center where he remained in intensive care at last report.

After an investigation by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Speed says authorities were able to charge the three suspects.

Speed said that 30-year-old Justin Z. McDonald of Prather Bridge Road in Toccoa, 29-year-old Dustin Eli Gunn of Carnes Creek Road in Toccoa, and 23-year-old Jeremy Kelly of Highway 17 in Toccoa were all charged with aggravated assault.

The sheriff-elect went on to say that Kelly was also charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule Two narcotic, and possession of marijuana-less than one ounce.

At last report, Speed said the three all remained in custody.
