TFC Sports Update

Basketball season comes to a close at Toccoa Falls College.

Both the Screaming Eagle men and women saw their seasons come to a close in their respective region tournaments on Friday.

On the women’s side, TFC trailed by just two at the half against Trinity Baptist College in the semi-finals, but Trinity pulled away in the second half for a 67-51 win.

Cassidy Lang led the Screaming Eagle women with 13 points.

The TFC women finished the season 11-17, eclipsing the 10 total wins the team had in the last two seasons combined.

Screaming Eagle Women’s Coach Jason Swiney was named South Region Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, Cassidy Lang and Katie Calloway earned first team All-Region honors and Esther Shady and Alanna Jones were both named to the second team.

Moving to the men’s side, Toccoa Falls trailed by just two with about five minutes to go, but Pensacola Christian pulled away from there to eliminate the Screaming Eagles in the semi-finals, 83-69.

Josh Folwell led TFC with 18 points, while Josh Barrett scored 16 points, and Derek Westfall and Jon Sauls each had 15 points.

The TFC men finish the season 17-12.

Josh Barrett was named the Region Player of the Year and was named first-team All-Region. Derek Westfall and Jon Sauls were both named to the region’s second team and Coach Jason Mehl was named Region Coach of the Year.

Moving to baseball, TFC swept Bethel College in a three-game weekend series, winning the games by 7-1, 7-2, and 10-8 scores.

The Screaming Eagle baseball team is now 6-9 on the year and is scheduled to host Bluefield College today for a doubleheader starting at noon.
