TCC Purchases Mowers for Golf Course

Toccoa City Commissioners approve the purchase of equipment for the Pines golf course.

Monday, the city commission unanimously approved the bid of Swinehart’s Power Equipment of Baldwin for two scag industrial mowers for the golf course.

The total bid from Swinehart’s Power Equipment was $19,842.

It was the lowest of three bids received for the mowers.

Tait Lawn Products of Brunswick bid $20,296 for the mowers and Boone Creek Outdoor Power Equipment of Gray, Tennessee bid $20,376.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said these mowers will handle the fairways and areas of rough at the golf course.

“As budgeted, we are purchasing several pieces of equipment for the golf course,” said Morse. “At this time, we would like to open bids for two mowers. That will be our first phase of equipment purchase.”

City commission approval of the Swinehart’s bid was made contingent on the bid meeting all specifications required by the city.

The low bid came in under the city’s total budget estimate for the purchase, which was $20,000.

Toccoa officials say they hope to have work done and re-open the city-owned, nine-hole golf course off of Black Mountain Road, which has been closed since late last summer, this August.

Meanwhile, the city commission also opened bids for two patrol vehicles for the police department.

The city received bids from four different vendors, Mike Jones Ford Lincoln, Hayes Family Dealerships, Jacky Jones Ford, and Dana Safety Supply, on Ford, Dodge, and Chevy police vehicles.

City commissioners voted unanimously to remand the bids to staff for further review and a recommendation.

In other action taken at Monday’s meeting, Toccoa City Commissioners voted unanimously to de-annex two pieces of property on Pageland Drive.

Morse said the property in question was annexed into the city in the 1980s, but never coded properly as being in the city.

He added a new property owner has since bought the property and was unaware that the property was in the city.

Morse said the property was not receiving the full benefits of city services and the owner requested de-annexation.
