Suspect Caught After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Striking Deputies

May 6, 2014

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said a suspect is in custody after a deputy was injured and taken to the hospital after stopping a vehicle during a safety check Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the area of the intersection of Defoor and Pinetree Roads.

Shirley said a deputy was taken to Stephens County Hospital and is recovering from injuries after being struck as a driver of a vehicle tried to flee the safety check.

Shirley said the deputy was dragged along the road until breaking free from the vehicle and the driver.

The sheriff also said a second deputy was struck by a mirror, but was not taken to the hospital.

We’ll have more information on this as it becomes available.
