Sunday Alcohol Sales at Restaurants Up for Vote Today in Lavonia

Voters in Lavonia will decide today whether to allow local restaurants to sell alcohol on Sundays.

The Lavonia City Council voted back in August to put the question on the ballot.

Lavonia City Manager Gary Fesperman said that decision came after several local establishments contacted the city.

“This has to be done through a referendum and a vote by the city,” he said. “Once the council received the petition, they went ahead and approved a resolution to put it on the ballot.”

If it passes, Fesperman made it clear that it only applies to Sunday alcohol sales at restaurants.

“This is pouring only, no retail,” he said. “It doesn’t apply to any retailer selling alcohol, beer or wine out of the coolers in packages. This is for pouring only.”

So ar, Fesperman said he has not had any input from the public on the issue.
